Solutions

Our recommandations

The choice of a backup solution is evaluated in the light of four main criteria:

  • Recovery time: to minimize the restart time after a disaster through the full and timely restoration of data, but also of the applications (MS Exchange, My SQL, MS SQL, Oracle, etc.)
  • Ease of use: it is necessary to minimize the human intervention required for setup, operation and maintenance of the solution selected
  • TCO* : to minimize the budget of a solution which meets the two above criteria (initial investment and operating costs)
  • Scalability: to adapt to changes and developments in the information system (Multi-Platform Solution : Windows, MacOSX, Mac OSX Leo, Linux, Solaris, Unix, etc.)

Main criterion: The number of workstations to be backed up
The greater the number of workstations within the company, the more the volume of the data to be backed up increases. The more the employees, the greater the volume of the data produced every hour increases and a lack of backup for a few hours can cause heavy losses in terms of data volume.

*The Total Cost of Ownership: this is the total cost of an asset taking into account the amount of its acquisition, operation and maintenance.

If you have a broadband Internet connection (ADSL), opt for a remote backup solution.

Fully automated solution

Data recovery within a reasonable time (1/2 day on average per workstation)

Very affordable price (usually a monthly subscription).

If not, back up your data on an external hard drive connected to your workstation. Be sure to save your data regularly (once a week at a minimum) on removable media that you store on another site (or otherwise in a fireproof safe) to protect you against major risks (theft, flood, fire, etc.).  A by default a minimalist choice

Inexpensive (less than €200 investment)

Manual solution

Requires rigour and discipline in the management of backup operations in order to achieve a satisfactory level of security

Remove automatic backup servers on fragile and perishable media (tapes, CDs, DVDs, etc.) that are expensive to operate (using up human management and media, with frequent replacement of aging or damaged media) and inefficient during disaster recovery.

Choose a backup server on hard disks installed locally (For example SecurityBox Classic which can be used as a file server if your workstations are not networked.

Couple this solution with an outsourcing data service which enables a restart on a new site if the company’s usual premises become temporarily or permanently inaccessible. If you do not want your outsourced data to be hosted by a third party, protect your local server in a high-security digital safe and replicate your backups on a second server installed on a different site of the business or your home ( TwinBox offer).

Fully automated

Fast restoration (locally stored data) a

Competitive quality / price relationship.

Alternatively, if you have a broadband Internet connection, you can opt for a remote backup solution. Only use solutions with data encryption so that they can not be read by your host (or a hacker who has penetrated the host).

Fully automated solution

Data recovery within a reasonable time (1/2 day on average per computer, a day for a server)

Very affordable price (usually a monthly subscription).

It is necessary to opt for a centralized backup server with a higher backup frequency in order to limit the risk of loss.
The server will be installed on site to reduce the recovery time in case of a disaster.

Given the Internet speeds that SMEs generally have, it can take a very long time for the recovery from a remote location or from a cloud solution. To guard against major risks (theft, flood, fire, etc.), the local backup server is preferably equipped with a high protection safe (As SecurityBox Allroad), or as a minimum combined with a solution for data outsourcing to allow a restart on a new site if the business’ usual premises become temporarily or permanently inaccessible.

If you do not want your data to be hosted by a third party, protect your server in a digital high-security safe (in the SecurityBox Allroad for instance) and replicate your backups on a second server installed on another of the busines’ sites or a manager’s home (thanks to the TwinBox offer for example).

Utilisation 4

Fully automated

Flexible solution (the number and capacity of hard drives is scalable) allows you to pick and chose the backup (data locally backed up, critical data locally, archives outsourced)

Fast and effective restoration

Total cost of ownership (TCO) among the lowest of the solutions competing on the market.
